The history of a bold discovery
In 1999 during the course of my work as a neurologist and ear acupuncturist, I noticed that a patient suffering from chronic pain (Trigeminusneuralgia) experienced a complete disappearance of pain after only one acupuncture session. I found that it seemed to be caused by a small nodule in the earlobe at the trigeminulneuralgia point. It was an ear acupuncture needle that had slipped under the skin. A new acupuncture era began, with amazing results; a technique that is even an effective treatmentfor Parkinson´s Disease.
This was the birth of a ground-breaking new technique in acupuncture, the permanent ear implant. When I tried this technique for the treatment of Parkinson´s Disease in 2000, the results were truly unprecedented. The first few patients that I treated with this new approach devekoped hyperkinesis (or dyskinesia) after a few weeks, which was clear evidence of a notable increase of dopamine in the brain. This indicated that the patients had become over-medicated in their use of conventional Parkinson’s medication (especially the L-dopa compounds). These compounds have been in common usage as a replacement for the deficient dopamine that the Parkinson’s patient experiences. By using the synthetic form of dopamine, the symptoms of Parkinson’s are temporarily suppressed.  This substitution creates pronounced side effects, especially as the medication loses effectiveness over time, and continually has to be increased. The degenerative disease process also in turn progresses faster because the body’s natural dopamine-making capacity atrophies more and more.  “Use it or lose it” is a good description of what happens when substituting synthetic compounds for the brain’s natural functioning.

Better than substitution therapy.

Thanks to the stimulation of the production of bodily dopamine due to the implanted ear needles, there is now a much better option available than artificial substitution.  A study conducted at the University of Bochum found that after 10 years, my patients take only 15% of the medication that untreated patients take. I have continued to develop the Werth Parkinson Implant Therapy with the experience of observing the progress in the treatment of many Parkinson’s patients.

In order to be accepted by the body on a long-term, permanent basis, the implants must be made of medical titanium. This substance is even harder than diamonds, which presented some challenging obstacles in designing the production of the Forever Needle. The implants were approved as a medical product with the EC-certificate, which certified their safety.  In the years since this product first came into use, I have continued to research ways to enhance and maximize the results as much as possible.

Parkinson's disease and the side effects of the medication.

Parkinson’s Disease is one of the degenerative diseases of the nervous system; its initial symptoms can vary considerably. It does not always present initially by the typical hand tremor, as first described by James Parkinson in 1817 in his book Shaking Palsy. Stiff muscles, leg spasms, weakness, and slow movement are often the first noticeable symptoms. A diagnosis can sometimes only be reached after receiving different medical opinions over a period of years, by which time immobility, stiffness, and mental slowness (often mistaken as dementia) are clearly present. Lack of facial expression often results in social difficulties for the patient, creating a sense of isolation. The progress of the disease, combined with collateral damage to the internal organs which can occur as a side effect of the medication, lead to total dependency.

 

Ear acupuncture can prevent this dire future.

Patients, with a few exceptions, can have a much better prognosis to look forward to with ear implant therapy. The disease symptoms result from the failing function and gradual death of nerve cells in the brain’s substantia nigra region. These cells produce the messenger substance, dopamine, which stimulates other brain regions (eg. the striatum); these cells are also responsible for mobility control. A poorly functioning  substantia nigra reduces the range and fluidity of the body’s movement.  Treatment with synthetic L-Dopa compound distributes dopamine through the blood equally over the entire brain, although it is only required at the site of the active dopamine synapses. This is not a specific enough delivery system to the proper targets in the brain to restore natural movement and movement control.

 

Sensational: Normal Dopamine production increases again.

Thanks to the implant acupuncture I developed, tiny titanium ear implants cause a constant stimulus to the brain, which in turn stimulates the creation of the messenger substances that lead to increased dopamine production. (see before and after Datscans of Enrico Schulz over a period of nine months), and lead to regeneration of the different cerebral areas. Often, instant improvement is noticed after the Werth Parkinson Implant Therapy. This flood of emotions – happiness, relief - influences the ability of the nerve cells to expel dopamine, stimulating various processes over the following months, such as the construction of new synapses (connection cells between nerves) and the formation of new nerve cell unions out of adult stem cells.

Regarding stem cell therapy.

Treatment with these ear implants will also be compatible with the future development of stem cell therapy. The integration of exogenous stem cells will be facilitated, thanks to the newly regenerated messenger cells. Ear implant therapy will in effect be essential to successful stem cell therapy because the stem cells need the guidance of the messenger cells.
