PBS (Peripheral Brain Stimulation) is a treatment for Parkinson patients introduced in 2001 by Ulrich Werth, MD, brain researcher and specialist in neurology. The treatment is based on the implantation of special titanium acupuncture needle points in the subcutis tissue of the outer ear. Many patients have experienced various improvements of their condition after treatment, ranging from the stabilization of the progressive disorder to an almost complete remission of all symptoms.
In the introduction phase of the Werth Parkinson Implant Therapy (WPIT), treatment had been conducted with 20 to 30 implants. Since that time, the therapy has been refined and perfected through Dr. Werth’s experiences working with and treating over 3,000 patients. Currently, the implantation of 80-120 needle points - the optimum to achieve the most beneficial therapy success, can be achieved in one treatment. In many patients, the progression of the disorder can be stabilized, medication dosage levels can be successively lowered, and symptoms like rigidity and tremor can be reduced with lasting effect.
